Prevention Works in Tennessee
Tennessee Alcohol and Drug Prevention Longitudinal Evaluation (TADPOLE) is a state funded alcohol and drug prevention evaluation program housed at The University of Memphis, Department of Anthropology and located in the Alcohol & Drug Prevention Research Center. It was jointly developed by the Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services, the Early Intervention Task Force and the Department of Anthropology at The University of Memphis. Implementation began July 1, 1992.
TADPOLE annually evaluates the outcomes of alcohol and drug prevention efforts for youth in grades three through twelve, who are identified and tested before and after participation in intervention programs.
The purpose of TADPOLE is to provide feedback, through quantitative evaluation, of the effectiveness of prevention efforts across the state. By identifying the effectiveness of interventions by agency and by population in a timely manner, each agency can build on "what works" and eliminate or strengthen less effective interventions. TADPOLE serves both the Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services and the prevention programs administered by state-funded agencies.
